Australians are in medal contention in a swag of Olympic sports today .. including
sailing .. basketball .. hockey .. water polo .. equestrian and walking.
Tornado pair GLENN ASHBY and DARREN BUNDOCK will be aiming for a third Australian title
in the formula one class of Olympic sailing.
They're lying three points off pace-setter Spain with one race of the 11-race series remaining.
Australians are involved in a number of team sports approaching the business end of the Games.
The women's basketballers have a semifinal showdown with China ahead of a likely final
against the United States.
The men's hockey team .. meanwhile .. will have to overcome a form slump and the loss
of injured striker GRANT SCHUBERT in a semifinal against Spain.
The women's water polo team hopes to lift for one last effort in the bronze medal playoff
against 2005 world champions Hungary .. trying to make up for an agonising 9-8 semi-final
loss to USA.
Seasoned beach-goer KY HURST tackles the men's 10km open water swim .. and 33-year-old
walker JANE SAVILLE will be looking to add to the bronze medal she won at Athens in 2004
in the 20km event.
EDWINA ALEXANDER has outside medal hopes as she attempts to become the first Australian
show jumper to win an Olympic medal in Hong Kong.
