NSW: Doctors hail man an Easter miracle for escaping paralysis

SYDNEY, April 4 AAP - Doctors today hailed a western Sydney man an Easter miracle when he
escaped permanent paralysis after breaking his neck.

An NRMA CareFlight spokesman said the 27-year-old man from Mt Druitt was knocked off his
pushbike in a collision with a car about 8.30pm last night and walked home.

But severe back pain forced him to call an ambulance which took him to Mt Druitt hospital
for treatment, he said.

"X-rays revealed he had suffered a "hangman's fracture" to his neck and despite the
movement, his unprotected spinal cord escaped injury," he said.

The man was immediately immobilised and airlifted to Westmead hospital, where he was in a
stable condition.
